Personal Mission Statement: “To create a world of peace, authenticity and joy by living in my truth and utilizing my talents, passions and wisdom.”
Hi, I’m JoMarie Tyrrell and I’m really glad you’re here.
I often tell my clients that we heal in connection, not in isolation. And since you’ve landed on this page, I want to welcome you into a space that’s rooted in compassion, curiosity, and real human to human understanding.
I was born and raised in the Philippines and came to the United States as an adolescent, a transition that, while incredibly challenging, shaped so much of who I am. As a bilingual therapist fluent in both Tagalog and English, I deeply value the power of language and the shared stories that help us feel a little less alone in the world.
My path to becoming a therapist didn’t start in a clinical office, it started in a 4th-grade classroom in Richmond, California, where I worked as a teacher. I saw firsthand how much emotional safety mattered, how kids who felt secure and supported could open up, take risks, and thrive. It was there, in the ordinary moments of teaching, that I began to understand something extraordinary: that growth starts in the heart long before it reaches the mind. That insight became the seed of everything that followed.
Like so many therapists, my journey into this work wasn’t just professional, it was personal. Life nudged (okay, shoved) me toward my own healing path, and I had the good fortune of working with a therapist who helped me rediscover something I thought I had lost: hope. It wasn’t just that she helped me feel better; it was that she reminded me I wasn’t broken. That I mattered. That I could choose a new path forward. That experience became the compass that led me to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Along the way, I also became certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor, expanding my ability to walk with people through their darkest, most complex terrain. Whether it’s trauma, addiction, anxiety, grief, or identity work. My approach is grounded in warmth, truth-telling, and meeting you exactly where you are.
I work with individuals and adolescents (ages 14 and up), and every session is tailored to you. Your pace. Your story. Your needs. No cookie-cutter formulas. Just real conversation, real insight, and space to be your full self, even the parts you’ve been hiding or second-guessing.
What guides me, both in the therapy room and in life, is a deep belief in authenticity, presence, and the healing power of being truly seen. I believe you are already whole, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. And I believe that therapy is not about “fixing” you, it’s about reconnecting you to the parts of yourself that have been waiting to be heard.
So if you're here wondering if things can get better, or if you're just tired of carrying it all alone, I want you to know: there’s hope. And I’d be honored to help you find it again.
Thank you for being here. I look forward to meeting you and walking this path with you.
Warmly,
JoMarie (Jo)
